Cannot receive SMS from overseas bank

Hi. I cannot receive sms verification codes from my bank overseas. I don't see records of texts from the bank in my message history when I log in to koodo self serve, so that rules out the possibility that the issue is with my phone. I can receive texts from family abroad.

Does koodo block texts from overseas banks?  I've seen a few threads on this same issue but couldn't really find a solution posted. I also looked into the Canada sms short codes list (https://www.txt.ca/en/) and don't see my bank listed on there. However, there are other banks on the list from the same country overseas. I'm really at loss as to what to do next. If anyone has a solution to this, would really appreciate the help. Thank you!

There is no good reason for Koodo to block text from overseas banks.

The most common issue is the bank SMS system themselves. Many banks can only send text to certain carrier and countries. They should have a clear and transparent policy on it. For example RBC can only send text to Canadian and US carriers as stated here http://www.rbc.com/sms/en/

I suggest you check in with your bank and ask them.

I believe the main issue lies with the short code that is being used by the overseas bank. In most cases, the short codes are only used domestically.

Is there another number you can use to receive the verification code? Are there any relatives or trusted friends that can help you out and give you the code? If so, you can send it to their number on the bank portal instead and have them provide you with the code.
