My voicemail says it needs a number. However, I put in the number given associated with my area code and it says I cannot change my number...... what in the heck ?

+4Voicemail normally needs their voicemail center server. Your phone number wouldn't work. The number normally was automatically set by Koodo though. Can you try to reset network settings of the phone to see if that can help.
As well, you can call your self from your Koodo handset. That technically will call your voicemail.
