Unstable internet speeds

My Internet speeds fluctuates between 10 to 100mbps, I have tested with different devices using Ethernet and have gotten the same results. I have also tried resetting modem and router. Any way to fix this?

Did this help you find an answer to your question?

I’ll flag a rep if there’s anything they can see. Troubleshooting for internet is limited here and might well require scheduling a callback to get technical support.

10 Mbps is quite low, but your speeds will never be a consistent 100 Mbps.

Koodo internet uses a fibre-to-copper node network, meaning speeds slow down as more people and devices connect in your house, including others in your neighborhood sharing the same node.

Unlike pure fibre ISPs like Bell and some Telus services, speeds fluctuate based on peak usage. If the rep is unable to help, I suggest you consider upgrading your plan in self-serve to help reduce the latency you might feel during peak usage times.

It seems to sometimes go up to 100 when I restart the modem then gradually goes down to 10 and never comes back up, I have also noticed the signal strength on the coax cable is low at -9

Which speed test app did you use? did you have any VPN or customized DNS on your desktop/laptop ?

Have you tried try speedtest by ookla?. Choose the server that is close to your area to make sure we have relevant tests. by keeping testing on the same server, that would help to troubleshoot

It happened to many issue with network devices as there are several bottleneck and automatic control on the system. Unless you have onsite tech support equipment to measure the signal, it is tough to pinpoint.

However, in most cases, it is the job of ISP to fix, they should have updated modem to fix the issue and maintain promised speed.

@Zimu Wang

A tech visit has been scheduled for tomorrow, we can send you a PM with more details if needed, please let us know.

Just thought I'd chime in to say I'm experiencing the exact same issue with my Koodo home Internet as you are. I'm paying for 1gbps and I get those speeds when I first power on the modem and router but as the day progresses the speeds take a massive dive downward.

I'm hardwired into the router using a gigabit switch and I'm getting anywhere between 20mbps-200mbps. My upload speed is decently consistent between 85-100 but my download speeds terribly inconsistent and I only get the advertised speed for about the first 10 minutes of the modem/router being on.

I do remote desktop editing and get horrible playback problems since switching from teksavvy to Koodo, it's really disappointing and hopefully my scheduled appointment will resolve the issue but you're not alone with it.

There is zero way I should be getting a 20mb result from a speed test when I'm paying for 1000
