Phone scam - offering 40% off monthly plan

Scammer claiming to be Koodo rep. knew my name and last digits of my credit card. Offered $32 mo. plan if I cancelled my old plan. Foolishly I agreed to use their promo code as my password “temporarily.” They offered me a “free gift” of headphones for signing  up to the new rate and said my account would be charged $16 for shipping, to be credited on my bill. I said no thanks to gift and charge.
Checked my credit card and I had been charged $16 and got an invoice for a new iphone to be billed monthly!!
Cancelled that order with a real Koodo rep. Changed my password. Cancelled my credit card which had been compromised.

Then got a  call from the scammer again asking for the tracking number so he could “check” on my order. I refused, he insisted, I refused. I assume they would try to reroute the phone’s delivery to another address, plus they have credit card details. Koodo will accept the phone’s return if it gets delivered but I have called Purolator to cancel. By changing my password they got access to my account for 10 minutes (stupid me). Enough time to order a phone. I’m feeling foolish but happy that I was able to reverse everything.

Did this help you find an answer to your question?

Hi there,

So seems a similar post like this was made previously. It sucks that new scams keep happening all the time :(

I'll flag a rep to your post as they may have more questions for you or can check our your account for any further suspicious activity 👍

Hi @Okanagan, we’re sorry to hear about this! We checked your account and our team has already left a note about the incident. We can also see you’ve already reset your self serve password, that’s great.

Have you shared any personal information with the caller, like your date of birth or address? If that is the case, we’d recommend calling Equifax or TransUnion so they can put a note on your account. If you’ve shared any banking information, please get in touch with your financial institution.
