Nubia WF725CA problem

I just received a Nubia WF725CA to replace my old ZTE box.  I followed the instructions and inserted my old Sim card.  The device is just showing a solid red network light with no bars which the instructions say is a sim card error/ no sim card. I know its fully inserted.

Is my old sim card locked to my old device? I didnt receive a new one with the new device.

I put the sim card back in the old device and it still works.

Thanks

Hi there,

Just to confirm, when you inserted the old sim card into the new device was it previously the micro sim sized sim card for the previous ZTE wireless home phone? If that is the case then you need to reduce it to the nano sim size by removing the attached adapter or was your previous device also a nano sim compatible wireless home phone?

Your old sim card is not locked to your previous device. The devices themselves are also not locked. Normally, nothing else has to be done on the Koodo side, you should be able to pop the compatible sim card in and be good to go. All that is tied to the sim is the plan and phone number.

the old  one was a micro and i did reduce it to a nano otherwise it wouldn't fit,

Are you able to swap Sim cards around to see if the problem persists/follows? Did you try restarting the unit as we?

I see, thank you for confirming. You would be surprised the small things that get missed, it comes up a lot on here.

In that case, I will flag a rep to take a look on here for you. This had come up before a few days ago. After much troubleshooting, it seemed the solution was to acquire a new sim card from a Koodo or Telus store, perform the sim card in Koodo self-serve, and then insert the new sim into the wireless home phone.

It seems it may require a newer model or print of sim card than before but the rep didn’t have a chance to take a look before they had made the sim swap. They may be able to fix it on their end and if not, a new sim may be required.

I do have a new unused sim card here that i got a year or so ago with a new phone from koodo but I just used my old one. What would happen if i tried it ? Would it show the same error if it isnt activated?

You can try that one if it was unused as you described. If you insert the sim card currently without doing the sim swap in self-serve the device will show the same error. This is because nothing is tied to the sim card until you change it in self serve. The phone number and plan will still be registered to the old sim card, so the new one won’t connect to the Koodo network until the change is made.

To change the sim card in self serve, you can do so by following the steps in the link, it’s worth a try while you have one already to potentially save the drive if needed. SIM card 101 | Koodo Mobile

well its working now. but it doesnt show as good as signal as the old one.  its only showing 1 to 2 bars and sometimes flicks to 4.  Maybe it will get better as it sits there.

Nice! I am glad the sim swap did the trick. Seems a new model of sim card is required after all for these devices.

you can also try relocating the device near a window facing the nearest cell tower, away from thick concrete walls and away from heavy metal appliances as best you can. This should help improve the signal. Good luck with the device going forward, if you run into any other problems let us know. 🙂

Its currently sitting in-front of a window that faces a tower now.  I will just have to watch it .
