Converting to eSIM I get a message about my phone number being transferred

IPhone 12 mini, OS 16.7.2, trying to convert to eSIM; monthly plan; phone says I am eligible to convert to eSIM, and offers all the buttons to do so

Everything worked as expected, but at activation step, when asked to confirm, I got the following message:

“Once your phone number is transferred, it will stop working on this phone” ?!?

I don’t want to transfer my phone number to a different phone, so I aborted.  Is there something fishy with the process, or is this just a poorly worded message, and I would be fine?

The wording may be confusing indeed, however, that means the physical Sim will get deactivated on your phone once the conversion to eSim is complete.

It sounds like the same wording as transferring an esim. I guess technically you're transferring from Sim to esim. When I look at the a Telus tutorial to convert to esim, it doesn't show that message, so it's probably a Koodo quirk about the Sim card will no longer work.

Thank you both; it worked like a charm.
