Hi. I will be travelling through the Maritimes on a RV trip in July. I was planning on bringing an Alcatel wifi hotspot and purchasing a Koodo pre-paid SIM and plan (probably the $60 / 15 GB pay as you go plan) . But a friend of mine told me that most Canadian providers have basically “banned” theses plans from working in personal hotspot devices . Is this true with Koodo? Will my plan work? Thanks!

Not sure if I can answer that, but why not put it in your phone and share it from your phone?

A couple reasons… firstly a dedicated hotspot device has better range than a phone. But mostly because  I want to keep my own SIM in my phone for calls. I just need the hotspot for internet and don't want to pay roaming charges.

I believe an old cellphone can also be used to hotspot. It doesn't have to be your active phone.

But I have not heard of koodo ever banning a hotspot device.
