U.S. roaming

Hugger1

My wife works near the U.S. - Canada border and we are constantly getting email notifications that she has connected to a U.S. roaming network.  Is there any way to stop these annoying notifications, as we get them every few days?

That's the one. Turn off automatic modea and you must select the network you want to connect to then.

Yes, you can change your network settings from Automatic to manual and select Koodo

@Hugger1

Just to top up on Dennis response, feel free to check in self serve if there is a  Canada-US plan available for you.

With a Canada-US plan, there will be no fees for when the phone picks a US tower while near the border,. On top of that, you can use your phone without additional charges in US (some exceptions apply). More about Canada-US plans, you can find here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/traveling-with-your-canada-us-rate-plan

@Dennis I had checked both our phones previously and there is no automatic  / manual option.  What we both have is the option to turn automatic off and select from a few carriers (Koodo, Bell, EXT (whatever EXT is I have no idea), Freedom, Verizon and 302150 (again whatever 302150 is I have no idea).  So I'll suggest to her this evening that she switch from automatic to Koodo.

@Flo Koodo I looked into both of our plans and add-ons.  There are a few other plans available that have Canada / USA options, some a little more expensive and some a little less expensive.  But I think that I know my wife pretty well (coming up on 21 years of marriage) and I highly doubt she'd want to change plans.  As well, all the plans now come with auto-pay.  I have a big issue with auto-pay, as I've been screwed more than a few times when I signed up to use auto-pay.  So, now I avoid auto-pay like it's the plague.

@Dennis and @Flo Koodo .....thanks for your suggestions though.  They give me a starting point to start to think on how to handle this situation.

Regarding the carrier in your phone search: You can’t connect to Bell. EXT is reserved for area where Telus/Bell didn’t have signal but Rogers does. They had an agreement to share the network and your phone can use it.

Keeping the phone on Koodo would help but that would hinder the phone to use  WiFi calling. Additionally, you might have to check the carrier settings again every time you restart the phone. It might automatically revert to automatic.
