I am currently traveling outside of Canada for a period of 3 months. I want to place my pay-as-you-go plan on a seasonal hold and remove my SIM to replace it with one connected to a local carrier. My SIM would be returned and the seasonal hold would be removed in December when I am back in the country. Is this possible? Can the seasonal hold or plan be in place while the SIM is out of the phone?

You mentioned “pay as you go plan”. Do you mean you are on prepaid? In that case, the good news is that you don’t have to use seasonal hold at all.
All you need to do is not renew your plan while you are away. Important to note though: make SURE you reactivate your plan within 90 days of the expiry date or you will lose your account/number/boosters/etc forever…
Meanwhile, you can definitely take out the SIM and replace it with a local one during your travels.
