roaming charges

Hi, while waiting to board our next flight to Thailand on January 20th, , I was removing my SIM card at the airport in Dubai and inserted my Thai SIM card. Took me a minute….you charged me $18 plus tax. I looked at my phone and I had the roaming turned off. I had to insert my Koodo SIM card for one minute to receive a notification code from my bank. My roaming was turned off and somehow you charged me once again on my April bill, I’d like this to be waived since this is clearly not right.

Hi there,

when following the instructions in the article below, it will tell you what usage had charge you for roaming. When you do, what shows as the reason for the charge?

Note using any of your plan features while roaming will trigger the charge. This includes using data, making or receiving a call, receiving a text message that requires data (receiving regular SMS is free), or checking your voicemail.

This will also be triggered if you have an iPhone that has live voicemail turned on where it gives you a message of the voicemail as well, even if you don’t call the voicemail.

Hello, I ended our conversation before I had a chance to look at my bill to see if the waive charges were applied. When I went to look he waived only one roaming charge but there were two. He said he will waive both and explained what I should do when I leave the country. I thanked him for helping me with this matter.  The one on January 21 or 22 at the Dubai airport needs to be waived as well.

Koodo told me I should have my phone on airplane mode at all times to avoid any roaming charges. Never had any issues in all the years I travelled.

Sounds like it came off airplane mode.  Or something reset the settings while switching sims.

If you are on airplane mode, it wouyld be impossible for Koodo to be able to detect or connect to a foreign roaming network.

It would also mean you wouldn't be able to receive any sms.  If you wanted to get an sms you would have needed to turn off airplane mode.  During this time, you could have had data leakage.

If you follow the instructions in Oliver’s link, you can find out what triggered the roaming

Where are you looking to see if the charges are waived?  Are you looking at your detailed pdf ebill?

Hi @Jokers, we combined your posts as they seemed to be about the same concern. We can see you’ve spoken to an agent in the meantime and the issue was resolved. We’re here if you have any questions.
