New customer charged connection fee after cancelling after one day and bought phone outright

I went to Mobile Klinik. I bought a used I-phone outright(no contract). Agent sold me on changing from Public to Koodo. After thinking about it overnight, I realized their plan was not right for me and their other plans were too expensive. I signed up the next day with Freedom. My understanding is that within 15 days no fees would be charged. Today I got a bill for the connection fee and 2 days service. Should that not be waived per law?

It depends how you canceled your plan.

If you contacted Koodo directly and asked them to cancel the plan within 15 days, you would get the fee back (and lose the number). However, because you ported your number into Freedom, they considered it as a normal use and would charge you both the connection fee and 2 day of service.

That makes sense. I think the agent at Mobile Klinik got a nice commission for selling me on the Koodo plan. He made it seem like I was getting the great price because of it. I don’t think it mattered. However, I am very happy with the phone I got and the price I paid and he did spend a bit of time helping me.
