I have been paying for this ridiculous service, with ridiculous customer service, for months now. I do NOT get text messages…...until I get home. ALWAYS. Yes I have an iPhone, yes I understand iMessaging, I do NOT get why I do NOT get ANY messages until I get home though? What’s up?
Why am I paying? I literally want my money back. I am not a total cell phone geek guy, but I’m not technologically idiotic. There is no way and no reason I should not receive text messages for free, while out of the house, while off of my network. What the heck is going on?
Yes I have an iPhone and my plan comes without data, so before anyone asks - there is your answer.
Do I need data for simple text messages? No I do not. I am a former Bell user, and NEVER had a problem. This is so frustrating, I am paying monthly and carrying around an $800 piece of trash in my pocket. It does nothing!
Why am I getting all of my text messages when I get home, and not while I'm out - when I need them?

You can long press on a message you send and have the option to re-send as SMS if it is not going through. For incoming messages, it would require the other parties sending the messages to manually select the SMS option on their end.
This has no connection to the phone network/carrier. You can try to toggle the iMessage off or switch to a data plan if you want to have the option active.
p.s. Pardon my anger but I just got in from a long busy day and got a serious influx of texts and Koodo themselves offer HORRID customer service. “Oh let us help you!!!! Schedule a call back!!! …...in a day or 2.

Make sure you have the Send as SMS option toggled on in your Settings> Messages. You can also try turning off the iMessage function when you’re without an internet connection.
Please accept my apologies, but I already knew all of that! I am WELL aware that iMessage is Apple, and needs data or wifi, etc…..If I’m out….off a network…..dataless…...why do messages not arrive to me? I need to physically turn off iMessage everytime I leave the house? That’s a bit much. Should I not just leave iMessage off permanently then?? Why wouldnt “unsendable iMessages” default and send via SMS????
This is amazing to me, that such a company is so hard to figure out and so hard to get ahold of.
Lastly I would like to thank you very much for getting ahold of me quickly. Koodo themselves however? A day or 2? That astounds me.

I did not mean why do iMessages not arrive to me. THAT I understand….my question is Why don’t they then send via SMS if I am unreachable via iMessage? …...If that is the case, is iMessage not a complete inhibitor?? I don’t get it?

Perfectly explained and I appreciate it. So that being said though, is iMessage ever really needed to be turned on when SMS is included, unlimited??!
