Wifi Calling

I switched to Koodo so as to use wifi calling as we have starlink because our cell booster has trouble this time of year due to tree growth and spring foliage. I had been a Public Movile user up to now.  But I am disappointed because when I activate wifi calling with koodo the phone call still breaks up. Why.  Our starlink internet service works well.

Hi @Sharon Schaler

Have you tried resetting the network settings on your phone?

If there is another phone used at the same location, does it experience the same issue?

As a test, if you turn on airplane mode (so no cellular connection) and enable and connect to your wifi internet, does your wifi calling work better?

I will expand on this as both my wife and I use Koodo WiFi calling through Starlink.  I do exactly what Dennis suggests here and my conversations are always crystal clear.

My wife does not do this and thus maintains a cellular connection which is weak at the best of times.  And sometimes as a result , she gets garbled conversations.  I suspect that what happens is that her phone at times tries to use the cell signal when it really is not strong enough. When I put her phone in airplane mode, boom, crystal clear conversations.

So try what Dennis is suggesting.  I suspect your problems with wifi calling will be fixed.

Wow, I appreciate your time given to provide me with a solution.  I will do as you have suggested.

Could you review these following steps:

I turned on Airplane mode, and it turned off Wifi.

Leaving the ‘airplane mode’ ON,  I checked Internet and turned wifi back on, which connected to Starlink, not Koodo. In fact it did not give me an option to choose Koodo. Only Starlink.

I then checked SIMS and it is Koodo, and stepped through the settings and verified that wifi calling was on.  “ ’Wifi Calling’ Call over mobile network.”

Is that what was to be done? And do I leave it like this when I am working at home, for both calling and internet?

Thank you. Note: As yet, I have not been able to check to see if this Airplane Mode method works. But would appreciate your feedback on the above steps that I mentioned.

That sounds correct. Just need to wait for a phone call now (or call someone) to test it out.

I would call a 1800 number like CRA to test it out.

If this works, in your phone’s wifi calling settings you may (or may not) be able to change the setting from Mobile Network Preferred to Wifi Network Preferred.  If this setting is unavailable, then yes I would recommend leaving airplane mode on to more effectively utilitze wifi calling.

I have provided the following settings; PLEASE Again, could you review for me, and comment. Thank you.

Under Internet : Starlink: use Wifi Checked.

Under Starlink Connected settings: I have Forget disconnect or share, and then other various pieces of info (frequency, signal strength, etc.)

Networks: My printer and + add network,

Under Network Preferences I have: Wifi doesn’t turn back on automatically, BUT when I select Network Preferences for more options I have: Turn on Wifi automatically Checked.  Notify for Public networks UNchecked.

Under SIMS: I have Koodo, and Mobile Network ‘Koodo Wifi Calling, and under Calling: Call over mobile network.  Under Network: Automatically select network Checked BUT Greyed out, and Choose network: Koodo Wifi Calling BUT Greyed out.

Hopefully someone else can comment on this.  I do not have a duel sim, phone, so not sure how to handle the settings on these.

Not sure that mine is a dual sims, but, I appreciate your time. How do I forward this to someone else?

Under SIMS: I have Koodo, and Mobile Network ‘Koodo Wifi Calling, and under Calling: Call over mobile network.  Under Network: Automatically select network Checked BUT Greyed out, and Choose network: Koodo Wifi Calling BUT Greyed out.

This is the key setting here.

Under Sims->Koodo wifi calling can you select this and see if there are settings under this?

I have a google pixel 7A, and when I go to Wifi Calling, it indicates Use Wifi Calling turned on (checked), then under it ‘Emergency address’.

Follow the steps here:

https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/202336907/pixel-7-wifi-calling-set-priority?hl=en

If you do not see the option then unfortunately it is not available

Just had a thought here.  When you do your intial set up, you do need a cell tower connection in order to get a code to get wifi calling set up.

Turning on Wi-Fi Calling for Android

(Steps may differ between manufacturers) 1. Open Call Settings 2. Turn on Wi-Fi Calling 3. Enter your phone number. You’ll get a verification code. Enter the code to continue. 4. You’ll need to read and accept the Wi-Fi Calling Terms and Conditions 5. Enter your Emergency 911 Address

Have you successfully completed this step?  If not, you will need to do this first before performing the airplane mode related steps to make it work better.

Hi, I have wifi calling setup and working , thank you. BUT now I need help with a chat program regarding my preauthorized pymt that I had setup.  On June 8th, I had problems, so with chat help, it was finally verifed that my bank had stopped the pymt.  So I called the bank and had the mthly pymt White Listed, so as to prevent that from happening.  I setup the preauthorized payment plan and paid the bill.  Today I just receive an email saying I had cancelled my pre authorized plan, but I did not.  Also I am suppose to receive the $10 discount for preauthorized pymt, but I have not. Can you guide me to the chat program that Helped me on June 8th.

I have reset up my preauthorized cc pymt again. However, I want to know if the $10 will be prorated, as I had setup preauthorized pymt right at the beginning when I opened my account.

The credits are no longer prorated. If the pre-authorized payment fails twice, the auto-pay discount will not show up on your next bill. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/auto-pay-discount

should I contact billing for help regarding my $10 discount. I wll try this same question using the correct category, because I realized that this is something different then the wifi calling issue.  So please forgive me for reaching out to you, Your help to others with similar wifi calling problems is better spent.  Thanks again, and sorry to have troubled you.  I will get this billing preauthorized issed dealt with one way or another. Have a good day.

No worries! To avoid this issue from happening again, I would suggest you to set up the pre-authorized payments on your Self-Serve account with Plaid. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/plaid-faq
