Question

texts sent to wrong contacts and customer pricing changes

I'm an existing monthly koodo customer. I've been considering upgrading my phone since its paid off. I've been eyeing some of the phones and the prices. Up until recently, the monthly tab prices would show as higher until I logged into my self serve, the screen asking if I wanted to upgrade for my existing account would pop up, and once I selected that, the prices would lower. However, recently the prices have stopped lowering. Once I log in and select that yes I want to upgrade, the prices just stay the same. For example, the Samsung s24 FE is now $13/month for tab plus or mid, vs $3/month before. There is a slightly better offer for a cheaper plan ($45/month with autopay vs $50 before), but that still works out to be more expensive. I'm just wondering if this is normal, or am I experiencing a glitch? I've tried logging in with different devices and browsers, but same results. The Samsung is just one example, all of the prices are higher now.

Also, I recently had a major issue that makes me weary to stay with koodo at all. I was sending text messages to people and from my end, I was definitely texting the right person. But other friends were contacting me saying they actually received my messages instead. I was extremely concerned about this, since it's a HUGE privacy issue. I dont want to have to worry that if I text my partner, its somehow accidentally going to one of my parents, or if I'm venting to a coworker, that my boss could be getting it instead. Has anyone experienced this before? I reset the network settings and it seems to have stopped, but it's not like I had been messing with the settings before that, so I'm not even sure if that was the issue or why it would have been. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

There may be exclusive offers when you log in, but they are only available for a limited time.

Which phone are you currently using?

I have heard this happen but it was always the case of the phone acting up or the user sending it in error. Because there is no way for you to send the message to someone and them koodo going into your contacts and then choosing to send it to someone else.

If it sent it to a random number then I could see it being a koodo issue.

Are you sending these messages as sms, mms or iMessage or RCS?

How often did this happen?

And who were you sending this to and who received it that was not intended?

They were SMS messages.

I'd have to double check to count, but it happened with maybe 10-15 messages over a period of a few days. Once I realized it was happening, I was using other apps (whatsapp, social media, etc) to message people instead so I don't know if it would have happened more had I been sending more messages. I also can't say for sure that it didnt happen more, because I didn't know it was happening until one of my contacts messaged me on Instagram about it, because she was also messaging me back confused and I wasnt getting those replies. So if someone got a message not intended for them but didnt tell me I wouldn't know.

I hear what you're saying about the contacts. I'm not saying Koodo was going into my contacts and sending them to the wrong people, but I just wondered if it could somehow be a network issue. Especially since it seemed to stop once I reset my network settings.

I'm not sure how to answer your last question because I'm not sure why it matters who it was or what info you want? But to explain.. i was sending messages to a friend one night and I was getting read receipts (which she generally doesn't have turned on), but no replies. I'm not going to go into details, but I was concerned about her not replying so I tried asking if she was ok, etc and then messaged again the following morning. A coworker of mine then messaged me on instagram saying I clearly wasnt getting her messages and that she was ok. She sent me a screenshot that showed my messages that on my end, are definitely in the conversation with my friend, as sent to her instead. At first I thought it was just a weird cross somehow happeneing between those two people, but then I messaged my partner and those messages also went to the same coworker. At that point I thought everything was just going to her. I was trying to clear the cache, restart my phone, etc to troubleshoot, and sent a test message to the friend I was initially trying to message (the one i had been worried about), thinking it would go to either her or the coworker. But that one then went to a different friend. That one was really weird because he did reply, and I got it, but his reply showed in the conversation  with the friend I was trying to send the test message too. She (the friend) didnt see his reply on her end though. I realized he had been the one to get my message because it showed the icon with the first letter of his name next to the reply (different letter then the friend I was trying to text) and when I tapped on that it showed his contact info (phone #, etc.). I then reset the network settings on my phone, may have also restarted it again too can't remember. After that it seemed to stop, but I'm still hesitant to text as freely as before.

I hope that makes sense, it's a bit difficult to explain. But it definitely wasnt me accidentally texting the wrong people. On my end it shows as if I did text the intended people. I was literally sending screenshots to these people to show that I wasnt just losing it or making things up, because I was worried they wouldnt believe me since it seems so absurd.

ETA: you mentioned you've heard of it where the phone was acting up. Do you know more about this, like why it would do it or how to prevent it?

My last question was to check if this is happening to 1 of your contacts and it was consistently misdirected to another specific contact.

From your explanation it sounds like it happens to multiple contacts. It also sounds like it happens consistently. But the misdirection is inconsistent.

Now you mentions read receipt. How are you receiving read receipts? Is it a sms?

Also can you try taking your sim out and putting in another working phone (like a spare phone or from a friend or family like your partner) and see if the issue persists?
