What can I do if I keep getting text messages with downloads to my number. I just got the number a week ago, and have not gave the number to anyone yet.

Numbers get recycled after a while, so the previous owner might have signed up for a number of services, or the number is known by spammers. Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do, except mark the messages as spam. You can also change your number, and hope the new one is better.
