Sonim XP3 plus 5g- is wifi calling available?

I just purchased the Sonim XP3 plus 5g through Koodo. The phone was delivered 2 days ago. I took the Koodo sim from my iPhone 15pro and put it into the Sonim. We live rurally with no cell service, wifi calling is all we use at the house.

When I go to toggle on the wifi calling where it says "off” it just bumps me back to the settings menu and doesn't change anything. I've tried this while connected to wifi and lte at the same time. Didn't work, went into the local Telus/koodo store today and she couldn't figure it out. She told me to call Koodo. After an hour on the phone I was told the Sonim XP3 plus 5g phone does not support wifi calling? Surely the agent was mistaken. I'd rather not send in this brand new phone if I've been ill advised.

Can someone please advise whether this phone should support wifi calling? It does on other networks and the option is in the settings menu.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

No unfortunately, the SonimXP3 is not on the WiFi Calling supported list. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/wifi-calling? Hence the WiFi calling toggle didn’t work on your device.

If you are a postpaid customer, and would like to use WiFi calling, you would have to use one of the device on the list.

Thanks for your response. I had previously read that page you linked. Where on the link are you seeing a list of phones that excludes the Sonim? I see it says iPhone 6 or newer or android running the latest over the air software. The sonim is an android running the latest over the air software update.

Can you confirm if the device below is the correct Sonim device you have? If so then yes, as per the Telus website the device should be wifi calling compatable.

There used to be a list available, but Koodo has since removed it. Koodo’s Wi-Fi calling support isn't always identical to Telus’s, so I wouldn’t be certain unless a representative checks it for you.

Just to confirm again: is your SIM card on a postpaid plan?

Hi, yes this sim is on a post paid plan. It's the exact same Koodo post paid sim I've used reliably for wifi calling on my iPhone. Thank you.

Hi @Geoffyukon

We have looked into it and we can see that you discussed with the technical support team. According to them, the phone doesn’t support wifi calling on the Koodo network.

The tech support team told me the model of phone didn't support wifi. When transferred to someone to send the phone back I was told my specific device was the issue/faulty, not the model of phone.

I am still unclear on whether my phone is faulty or the actual sonim XP3 is unsupported for wifi calling with Koodo?

I'd like to know whether I should be pursuing a replacement phone of this exact model or bring my business somewhere that supports wifi calling on this Sonim.

You can try to schedule a call back and ask another rep to confirm. But I don't think the issue is your SIM, since it worked well with your iPhone and you said the phone has updated to its latest firmware?

Anyway, is the phone still in return period? You can return if if you are not happy. If WiFi calling is important, I recommend you stay with Apple, Samsung or Google devices.
