I would like smartwatches with cellular compatibility to operate independently from smartphones, essentially offering standalone plans or add-ons. It's surprising that Koodo, owned by Telus, hasn't shown much interest in providing this option. I'm amazed that Koodo and Telus aren't striving to stay ahead in the market. Particularly since, Virgin Plus a Bell subsidiary, is now offering Smartwatch plans with their proprietary NumberShare system. It's time for Koodo to catch up and offer similar features to remain current.

After a year, Koodo still apparently has found it too difficult to offer a smartwatch offering that Chris10 had mentioned. Then again, the sheer lack of ANY material even mentioning  any smartwatch plan by this company indicates that they are a typical lacklustre outfit,

They soft launched it a month or two ago. Currently you can only set them up in store.

Here’s some FAQ’s:

Thanks Allan M for the current information. Indeed,  the right phrase is soft launched. I’m guessing they’re trying to avoid a mad rush of new business if they were to actually push the service. LOL

My recent experience of Nov 22, 2024 might shed some light on the state of the Koodo smartwatch service. I’d paired a new Apple cellular smartwatch 10 purchased from Apple with my very new online enabled Koodo Mobile account and the smartwatch service activation was instantaneous. So in my case, no in store visit was required. The process went VERY smoothly.

However, it was only at the point of saying yes to this activation that it was revealed to me that the service would involve an additional $70.00 connection fee. Previous to this, I had no idea what the actual final cost of a smartwatch service was going to be at Koodo. It would be very useful if that connection fee was now included in the smartwatch FAQ. I might’ve missed it in there or someplace else on the site while doing my smartwatch service research, but I was not able to find it.

In closing, I joined Koodo mobile strictly on the basis of them offering a very competitive smartwatch service. I am very happy with this Koodo smartwatch service and I don’t regret leaving my previous provider of 9 years that didn’t offer it. Koodo could’ve made it easier however.

How did you add the plan online?

Did you add a new line (like you would a phone) or is there a specific option to add the smartwatch plan?   Thank you so much!

CAVEAT - this process was really just a first and only attempt by me to see if it would actually work…. and it did. It was so quick and painless that I might’ve missed a detail here, so beware please.

In my case I’d already paired an iPhone 11 running on the Koodo network with a newly purchased Apple Watch 10. Both the iOS and watchOS had the latest software updates previously installed. A working pairing is really important.  I selected Cellular  in the iPhone watchOS APP settings and Koodo was the network option already there to be selected. (both the iPhone and Watch should be in close proximity...) I selected that option and I was served with a notice that a $70 connection fee would be charged. I enabled it and was connected in under a minute. The watch plan was added to my Koodo online account automatically. Hope this helps!

Fantastic stuff.   I’ll give that a try when my watch arrives.

Do you have any idea of the cost/data with the watch plan?   (Can you view details of the plan in your account?)

Many thanks.   You have given me hope that this is possible.

The watch cellular plan offered is $10 and includes 5GB of data per month. It shows up in your Koodo Overview right alongside your mobile account. The Watch Data usage and billing etcetera are totally accessible in the Self Care section of your account. Nifty in the sense that everything is together but separate in the details.
