No Service/ Emergency Calls only

I’ve Been a Koodo customer for about 5 years and have recently started experiencing recurrent ‘Emergency Calls only’ and No service’ errors in specific locations, including my workplace, where I never had issues before. This started shortly after a call with Koodo support. I’ve had my SIM card replaced in store, which temporarily work, but it continues to cut in and out repeatedly and also tried every trick on koodo forum. This has caused real distress, including a situation where I was unable to reach a family member during an emergency. My account, SIM, and plan are all active and in good standing. My wife's line plan (which is with a brand new iphone) which is also on my Koodo plan is experiencing the same blackout zone. I’m located in Saskatoon, Sask. Could someone from Koodo techincal or network team look into this and open a network trouble ticket for this?

Hi @Bone_K-9

Just to double check, if wifi calling is enabled on your phone and you are connected to a wifi network, is the connection stable when you make/ receive calls?

If so, we recommend schedluing a call back with the technical support while connected to wifi calling, so they can further troubleshoot the issue.

Both lines dropping in the same spots, on two different phones and after a fresh SIM, points away from the device or the SIM and toward coverage in those locations.

On the iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data and switch from 5G Auto to LTE, then restart — a weak 5G signal in one building can cause exactly this hand-off drop. Also turn on Wi-Fi Calling (Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling) so calls and texts still go through at your workplace while this gets looked at: https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/wi-fi-calling

let me flag a rep to see if we can have more information

What do you mean that it “temporarily work[s]”?

When you got the new sim card was the signal improved and working for a month? A day? An hour?

Hi there, @Bone_K-9 !

I verified the service on both lines and we can see that your wife’s eSIM and your physical SIM are connected to your devices and our services, too.

There’s no outage currently impacting the services in the area.

In case the issue persists, if you don’t have the possibility to book a callback with our Tech Support via Koodo Virtual Assist, you can visit one of our physical Koodo locations to have our reps check the services and the devices, too.

@Dennis Hey Dennis,

when i got my SIM replaced, it connected for about 2-3 minutes and cut out. in store we even placed the SIM in a different phone to see if it works. it did connect for a few minutes as well and cut out.

For the first sim did the store place the sim In a different phone to see if it works?

Fir this 2nd sim did you go back to the store and and have them place the sim in a different phone to see if works?

@Dennis For the first SIM the store did not place it in a different phone to see if it works. I believed my SIM was faulty and had it replaced.

For the Second SIM i only had the store place it in a different phone once and it worked for a few minutes and the ‘Emergency calls only’ came back.

however i had another phone at home which i tried the second SIM with and it worked without any issue

Does the second sim work agin if you put it back in the regular phone, or does the disconnect after 2-3 minutes resurface?

@Goran the second SIM does work occasionally but has blackout zones throughout the city.  it’s weird cause it would work perfectly for a while but if i step outside or go into a building it cuts out and get ‘emergency calls only notice’

If it works on a 2nd phone but not on your phone it sounds like an issue with your phone and not the sim.

Are you able to try a confirmed working sim (from friend or family) to see if the issue repeats it self on your phone?
