Question

Need help with old SIM card

My current Iphone with current SIM card has been misplaced. I have a back up Iphone with a SIM card that was valid less than 30 days ago. Koodo’s assist states that I can use this card as long as it was not deactivated more than 90 days ago, but there is no info on how to reactivate.

I cannot receive phone calls or SMS until my card is activated, so Koodo’s assist referring me for a call back will not work.

Are there any live agents reading this that can help?

Was this sim card last used with this same line for for another number on your account?

The SIM card was used for the same number as the currently misplaced iPhone. I’ve had the same # with Koodo for around 15 years, and no other phone lines or numbers.

Thanks for that. But the link states I should simply put my SIM card into the phone and it will start right up. The local Koodo store where I bought the SIM tells me that once the SIM is deactivated it will no longer work, and there is nothing that can be done on their end.

In spite of being told this by the Koodo Store, I kept the SIM in the event the rep was wrong. And it seems that he was wrong, based on what I read here on Koodo.

Are there any sort of steps I must take to re-activate the card, remembering that a valid card is still in my misplaced iPhone?

A swim swap requests 2 factor authentication.  Typically it sends a text to the currently active sim (which you have lost).  In this case you should be able to send the 2FA code to your email.  If this fails to work, then you will need a rep to assist.

Let us know if you run into any challenges

Thank you. The challenge is in getting to speak to a rep. I will attempt to have the authentication code sent to my e-mail , but for some reason the codes always seem to arrive long after they have expired.

Thanks for the info.

OK I have the SIM card in. As expected not much happening. All cell calls fail.  It asked me to call Koodo to enable Wi-fi calling, but I can’t until I activate my SIM.

The constant circular firing squad….

Are you able to request a callback to a different number that you are near (friend or family)?  The call back number does not need to be the same number as on the account.

If the sim is not active when you try to set up wifi calling, it will not work.

Are you able to schedule a callback to a number you have available to you like a friend or Family member?

Is there no way to reach support on a chat basis?

No, I am not able to do that.

Ok let me flag a rep for you.

I am not in a location where I am physically able to reach out to friends or family. I doubt any of my neighbors would appreciate me trying to use their phones.

Hi @Daryl Laz, as SIM swaps are sensitive self serve-only transactions, unfortunately, we have no access to process them via the Community or social media. You mentioned you were chatting with the Koodo Expert Messaging team, perhaps they will be able to assist?

If that is not the case and an alternate number is not available to receive a code or schedule a callback, we’d recommend visiting a Koodo store for the swap.

I am not currently speaking with the Koodo Expert messaging team. I have sent some messages via the chat system, but it is not clear if they are being seen. And I seem to be getting logged off that system rapidly.

Per the above, my visit to the local store was unsuccessful, as I was told that once a SIM card is deactivated there is nothing they can do

ok continue with the expert chat or go back to the store and ask them to get the card activated.  Lie to them and say it is new is necessary.  If it doesnt work, they should be able to sell you a new sim card anyways
