Question

mystery calls from US states

Almost every day I get incoming calls (which I never answer) that display the name of a US state on the screen (California, Missouri, Wyoming, etc.).

I’ve never told anyone, except my partner, what my number is, and I haven’t visited the United States for more than 2 years, so why am I getting these calls?

Those are spam calls. They dial numbers in blocks, so your number doesn't have to have been shared anywhere for them to reach you. The state name is just whatever the caller's network is passing along. Call Display+ only shows a real name when the caller's network sends one out, otherwise you get the number or something generic like that.

Koodo has Call Control to block spam and unwanted calls, more info here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/call-control

Which phone are you using? on Android the Phone app usually has a Caller ID & spam setting that filters out a good chunk of these as well.
