High Loaded Ping Times Causing Internet to Load Slow

Hi everyone,

For the past few weeks my internet has been intermittent. Speed tests on fast.com , run directly connected to my router,  show decent results on my Unlimited Internet 100 package:

Download: ~80 Mbps
Upload: ~28 Mbps
Unloaded ping: 15–25 ms
Loaded ping: consistently 600–900 ms+

That loaded ping is what's causing pages to feel sluggish and connections to drop. I've already tried:

- Swapping DNS (ISP default via DHCP, Google 8.8.8.8, Cloudflare 1.1.1.1)
- Eliminating wireless as the cause (tested wired, multiple devices)
- Factory resetting the modem

None of it helped. Here are my current RF signal stats from the modem:

Downstream (DOCSIS 3.0 — 32 channels)
All channels locked on 256QAM. Power levels are consistently in the -4.6 to -6.9 dBmV range, SNR between 35.8–37.6 dB. Correctables and uncorrectables are essentially zero across all channels.

Downstream 3.1 (OFDM — 2 channels)
Both 4K FFT channels fully locked (PLC/NCP/MDC1 all YES). Power around -7.9 and -6.2 dBmV.

Upstream (DOCSIS 3.0 — 4 active channels)
All four channels on 64QAM, transmit power 41.5–42.5 dBmV, frequencies between 21.1–38.7 MHz. Four additional upstream slots show as invalid/not in use.

Upstream 3.1 (OFDMA — Channel 0 active)
Channel 0 is in OPERATE state, reported power ~50.4 dBmV. Channel 1 is disabled.

Signal levels look within spec to me, but the loaded latency problem persists regardless. Is there anything else I should be checking or testing before calling in? Any guidance is appreciated!

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for your response, yes I already went through that page before making a post here and eliminating everything internal to my home.

I have Factory reset modem, and connected modem directly to different devices (windows, mac and linux) with same results.

From your description, I recommend you contact koodo internet support by scheduling a call back. It seems the network routing of the 3rd party ISP might have issue.
