So last night I noticed that a couple of my notes on my Iphone 12 just “disappeared” … yup gone. Not in my deleted folder or ANY other folder form that matter. Checked Icloud … gone there as well. Tried to do some trouble shooting and one suggestion was to update to the latest iOS which I did (16.2) and guess what … I then lost ALL but 10 of my original 126 notes. To say that I’m in a bit of a panic is an understatement cause for me this is THE MOST important usage of on my phone. Without my notes I’m clueless as to what’s going on … so how can I get them back please!!!!!
“On My iPhone” should not be selected. I have this turned off on my iPhone.
Another option is to restore your iPhone from a backup via iTunes. If the backups are timestamped, choose a date prior to the update, (December 13th, 2022). Newer Macs don’t use iTunes.

Unfortunately I’m seeing that my last backup via itunes was back in 2019 (which I find strange since I thought itunes backs up every time you connect the phone to your pc which I do every day to charge it!) as so those notes back then would not be the notes that are the ones I need. :(
Try the link below to see if you can access all of your notes.
Go to icloud.com/notes and sign in with your Apple ID.
That’s the very first thing I checked when I lost my notes … to see if they were there. NOT. Just the same 10 notes that were left in my phone was what showed in my iCloud account. Makes me wonder what purpose the cloud serves if I can’t get a backup of my phone on there.
