Apps won't load using data but work fine with wi-fi

I have a Moto G 5G manufactured in 2024.  My phone and the installed apps where all working fine up until this morning.  

When using mobile data some of the apps on my phone will not load when they’re opened.  I’m met with a spinning circle, and they never fully load.  They load and work fine while using wi-fi, and also work on my husbands phone when using data.  

I have restarted my phone multiple times.  Uninstalled and reinstalled the apps that I’m having issues with.  Cleared the cache for said apps.  

I am at a loss.  It says I’m on the 5G network.  I manually switched to 4G and there was no change.  I feel like since they work fine using wi-fi it must be data related, but don’t know how or where to try and investigate it further or how to attempt to fix it.  

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am with koodo too and im in Guelph Ont.  All 4 of our phones are doing the same thing.

Yes it sounds like a cellular data issue.

When you login to your self serve anc check your data usage?  Are you at your limit?

Have you changed your plan recently?

In your Settings, under data, do you see a data limit set on your phone?

@Dennis Riddell Do you see an active outage on the outage map?

Have you tried to reach out to friends and family with Koodo to see if they have similar issues?

Hi Dennis,

I have only used 2 gb out of 70, and haven’t changed my plan in almost a year now.  


All 4 phones started working after dinner today...musta been an outage

I’m in Southwestern Ontario.  I don’t see any outages in my area on that map.

I am with koodo too and im in Guelph Ont.  All 4 of our phones are doing the same thing.

This is very interesting.  My husband also has Koodo and his phone and apps are all working fine.  

Your reply does give me hope that maybe it’s a  provider issue and might be resolved without me having to do anything.  *crosses fingers*

@MaPaDog Try swapping your sim card with your husband and see if the issue follows your device or your sim

Mine has started working as well.  I’m still confused how an outage would cause  only the apps to not work.  I could still access the internet.  

I’m glad everything has started to work again though!

@MaPaDog you mentioned your apps worked on wifi but not on data.  This means the apps work, but it needs internet from wifi.  But internet from data was not working.  If it is all working now, then it sounds like there might have been a small outage in your area
