5G connection issues on Pixel 8a

I have a Pixel 8a, which supposed to have a 5G capability. Unfortunately, the only network available is LTE+. I tried the network reset and phone restarts. Unfortunately, nothing worked.

Are you currently on a legacy LTE plan? If so, you will need to upgrade your plan in order to access the 5G network.

Have you tried inserting another Koodo SIM card from a friend or family member into your phone to see if you can get a 5G connection? If it works, it is likely that it may be an issue with your SIM card. You can order a replacement on your Self-Serve account. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/koodo-sim-support

Hi
Which plan are you on, and how many bars of signal did you have when testing?
The Pixel 8a has 5G so the device shouldn't be the issue. 5G is just a part of the network, it doesn't cover every corner and can be weaker than LTE, so your phone might just pick the stronger LTE signal instead.

You can also try manually selecting Koodo from the network list then switching back to automatic. I would recommend running a speed test out door in a location where you know a cell tower is around.

Originally, I subscribed for the 4G LTE plan around two years ago. I believe it’s currently been automatically upgraded to 5G because that’s what appears in my account overview. The 5G network is also selected inside the Pixel 8a’s settings. However, even with the 5G setting being active, only an LTE+ signal is available. I am living in a city, so the area should definitely have 5G towers nearby. I will try to order a SIM card replacement per your suggestion.

I resolved the issue by converting the physical SIM to eSIM inside the Pixel’s settings. After restarting the phone, the 5G signal started to work without any problems. Thanks for all the suggestions.
