Hello, I currently have an old android phone with a sim card. I am considering getting an iphone. I would need an esim on the Iphone. How would I go from a physical sim on my android to an esim on an Iphone? I have tried searching Koodo for this information but cannot find any topics on it.

Under FAQ it says esim vouchers are no longer available?

It lists what you can do in self service but it does not have the option of what I would like to do. Old android phone with sim card to new iphone esim.

1. Where can I get an eSIM voucher?

Koodo no longer offers eSIM vouchers. Instead, you can easily download and set up your eSIM with Self Serve. This includes:

  • Switching from physical SIM to eSIM on the same phone or switching your eSIM to a new phone
  • Reactivating a deleted eSIM
  • Transferring your existing service from a physical SIM to an eSIM on the same device

You can do it in your self-serve. Go to Mobile Services » Manage your SIM card or eSIM

Then Select Transfer my eSIM to a newer device

Select Transfer an eSIM from Android to iOS (I am aware that you are having  a physical SIM, this still works), you will receive SMS code to your existing SIM or email.

If you still have other issue, visit a Koodo kiosk/store with proper ID, someone will help you there.

Hi

Since your Android is on a physical SIM, there's no eSIM to transfer, it's simply a conversion of your line to an eSIM. You don't need to do anything on the Android beforehand.

Once you have the iPhone you can do it yourself in Self Serve, Koodo sends a verification code to the number or email on your account. The iPhone side is covered here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/esim-on-apple

If the code doesn't arrive or the conversion fails, try Self Serve » Mobile Services » select your number » Get help with eSIM and SIM cards. Otherwise a Koodo store can transfer your number onto an eSIM voucher and scan it there, you will need valid ID.

I just want to confirm that you are saying that if I get a new Iphone, I can get an esim through my self service account?

The url in your reply has a bunch of options. Which one do I need to look at?

Can I also ask a Koodo rep here to help me out with the esim if I have issues?

You can borrow a newer phone from a close friend or family member, insert your SIM card into the phone, and follow the instructions for an eSIM transfer. Once that is complete, you should be able to swap it to your new iPhone.

Everyone else I know has an Iphone without a sim slot.

You do not need another iPhone. If you have a newer Android device, you can use the same steps to transfer the eSIM. It will generate a QR code for your new iPhone to scan and proceed with the SIM swap. https://www.telus.com/en/support/article/android-esim

My android device is old and am being charged $5 extra each cycle for 3G service, which is why I am shopping around for a new phone.

As mentioned before, are you able to borrow a newer Android device from your close friend or family member?

Unfortunately no.

Can I actually go into a Koodo/Telus store and they can do this for me?

Before you go to a Koodo store, you can try to download the eSIM from your Self-Serve account to see if you are able to set it up on your new iPhone.

I have looked at each article for esims in the Koodo site and none of them relate to moving a service with a SIM card in an old android phone to an an esim in a new IPhone in self service. I would like to know the process ahead of time so as not to have any down time. Is there a Koodo rep in this community that can tell me what I would need to do. Thank you in advance.

@Dinh

Thank you for the screen shots and the insertion about the physical sim. I get the process now.  It would have been helpful if Koodo had included physical sim as you had done. Thank you.
