What happens during the 5 days in between renewal of a 360 day prepaid plan?

I have the $250 LTP Base Prepaid Plan - 12GB Data - 3G - for 360 days.  I paid $250 + HST up front for unlimited voice and text and 12GB data at 3G speed for 360 days. The current billing cycle for me is 18 Jul 2024 to 13 Jul 2025. I have automatic top ups enabled. I am worried about my cellphone and data service during the 5 days in between my old and new billing cycles. Will all service be suspended temporarily from 14 Jul 2025 to 18 Jul 2025? Do I have to do anything to my phone like remove and reinsert my SIM card in order to initialize the new service period? Finally,  why won’t Koodo just sell this plan for a 365 day service period with a reasonably increased price?

Koodo will attempt to renew the plan once the cycle is finished (the 14th). If there is sufficient funds in the prepaid account, it will renew again for 360 days. You will need to top up the account again by purchasing a prepaid top up in person or by automatic top up if you signed up for it.

If there is insufficient funds, you will lose service and will have 90 days to top up and renew again before the account closes. You do not have to remove the sim, just make sure the account has sufficient funds.

I imagine the reason they're 360 days is because prepaid plans only run for 30 days at a time as some months are longer and shorter than others. So this times 12 would be 360. I suggest you check the plans though before you renew as there are now some much cheaper and better ones available. 🙂

Koodo will likely renew your plan on July 14, 2025, not July 18. They typically renew prepaid plans at the end of the billing cycle.
