Question

Can't sign into network or create a self-serve account

I went to a Koodo kiosk in a local mall to purchase a pre-paid sim card. i paid for it, brought the sim card home and installed it into the phone but when it tries to sign into the Koodo network i get a screen that shows the address https://www.koodomobile.com at the top and then says “You are unable to access the web because of one of the following reasons”  followed by a list of reasons that all suggest dialing *611 as a solution.

Unfortunately dialing *611 (or any other phone number) doesn’t work. it doesn’t connect. I have an email that was sent at the time that i purchased the sim card that says it’s activated and I was under the impression that all i needed to do was install the sim card but that does not appear to be the case.

I attempted to create an account with the self-serve portal but account creation requires a phone number and while i did see the number briefly on the computer screen when the guy at the kiosk was ringing up my transaction, I didn’t write it down and the most i’ve been able to find is the last 4 digits of the phone number in the activation email. It shows up as “Unknown” in the actual phone and there’s nothing on the receipt.

I’ve tried using the automated support chatbot but it doesn’t appear to be able to understand the problem of not knowing the phone number.

What do I need to do to make this thing work?

Hi Dennis,

Sorry I didn’t think to include this detail in my original post, but I paid for a plan at the same time I paid for the sim card. I went with an annual plan. Again, I have an email that says it’s been activated, and it includes the price of the plan.

What phone are you using?

Was the prepaid sim tested at the kiosk when you purchased and activated it?

It’s a hand-me-down Nokia 2.3 that was being used with Telus as recently as last year. It wasn’t tested at the kiosk because I didn’t have it with me at the time. I’m not someone who carries a phone. My main purpose in doing any of this is because an increasing number of sites require a mobile phone for 2FA.

Have you restarted your phone after inserting the Koodo SIM card? Did you try to reset your network settings? What about changing the APN settings? https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/setting-data-your-non-koodo-phone

Hi MilkyWay

I had already tried performing a factory reset, which I understood would include resetting the network settings. I’ve now also tried changing the APN settings, but unfortunately still no luck. Also, I’ve restarted the phone multiple times since installing the SIM card.

What is the colour of your SIM card? Is it purple and green or orange and pink? If it is the latter, you got the postpaid SIM card and will need to go back to the Koodo store to get a replacement SIM card.

Are you able to insert your SIM card into another device to see if it is showing the same issue? In the event that it does not work properly, you will need a replacement SIM card. Otherwise, I would suggest you to return to the Koodo store and ask the rep to further assist you with the Self-Serve account.
