Traveling to Switzerland for a month

Greetings,

I noticed that lots of people had problems with their Europe Travel Passes. Could somebody please explain to me in detail, what I have to buy, what to activate and how. I'll arrive on July 9 and need to be able to call within Switzerland and to Canada, also to send messages, SMS and MMS, to Canada and USA until August 5. I have 60 GB of Shock-Free data at 4G speed and Unlimited International SMS and MMS on my account.

Can my children, who live in the US call and text me as if I were in Canada or will they be charged international roaming, because my phone is in  Switzerland?

At times I'll be close to the German and French border, how do I prevent my phone from connecting to a tower outside of Switzerland. I guess I cannot choose Koodo. Any idea what the Swiss carrier's name is?

Thanks in advance.

The Easy Roam Travel Pass can be added on your Self-Serve account. Alternatively, you can text EU14PASS to 7626 for 14 days of travel or EU30PASS to 7626 for 30 days of travel.

It is active for 45 days after adding it to your account, so you should wait until a few days before your departure date to maximize your usage. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/europe-easy-roam-travel-passes

Do you have Easy Roam on your account? If not, you should make sure to enable it before you go abroad or else you will not be able to use the Easy Roam Travel Pass. You can text ROAM to 7626 or add it in your Self-Serve account.

It is really important to know that you will only be able to make calls and send text messages in Canada and your destination country. Based on your example, you should be fine if they give you a call, but you will be subject to long-distance fees if you call or text them. It would be best advised to stick with Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp to avoid any unexpected charges.

You can refer to this list of partner networks that are compatible with the Koodo network. There are three carriers, which include Swisscom, Sunrise, and Salt Mobile.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I still don't quite understand, since I have unlimited international SMS and MMS on my account, can I send SMS and MMS from Switzerland to Canada and the USA without being charged? It was my understanding, when getting a Europe Travel Pass, I can use my phone as if I were in Canada. Please advise, thank you.

Easy roam and the roaming travel pass includes SMS and MMS in Switzerland to Switzerland and to Canada.

To send SMS and MMS to the US while in Switzerland is pay per use. If you plan includes international SMS or MMS, it is only while you are in Canada

Regarding your question to  text US number, easyroam doesn't cover it only Canada and the country you traveling on is covered. If you send text to an US number, you would be charged at payperuse international rate.

The Perk is only available for use in Canada. It is not applicable while abroad. That is why I suggested you to use Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp as an alternative method.

Ok great, thanks to all who replied, I sincerely appreciate you help.

I checked my account again and it does state that Easy Roam USA and Easy Roam International is ON.

Do I understand correctly, people from Canada can call me while I am in Switzerland and they won't be charged long distance fees?

This is to roam while in the US.  To call  and text US and Canada when in the US

Correct.  They are calling a Canadian number.  The onus is on the person who is out of country to pay the roaming charge.  The caller to their understanding is just calling canada with no expectation if you are out of country or not.

Are you getting the Euro travel pass?

You can text EU14PASS to 7626 for 14 days of travel or EU30PASS to 7626 for 30 days of travel.

Yes, I'll buy a 30-day Europe Travel Pass a few days before I leave, that will cover my entire stay.

I suggest using the text code and not adding it via self serve as there has been issues in the past.

I suggest adding it 1 week before you leave to ensure any issues are resolved before your trip starts
