Recently switched to 5G plan, but not getting any 5G connection anywhere

As stated in the title, no 5G connection on my A52 5G, despite changing plan over a week ago and receiving confirmation.

Tried the basics like restarting the phone, resetting network connections and also reconnecting to the Koodo network.
Could it be a sim issue? How do I know if my sim card is compatible with 5G?

The area has better 5G coverage than 4G, but as mentioned i haven’t been able to get 5G anywhere.

Thanks

That is strange. Have you tried inserting your SIM card into another device to see if you are getting a 5G connection?

Don’t have any other devices to test with, unfortunately.

Also, network type doesn’t have an NR option, which from my understanding should be associated with 5G.
The highest available option is “LTE/WCDMA/GSM”.

From this information, it appears the phone 5G profile wasn’t activated. Is your device from Koodo? have you checked if the phone received latest firmware and running Koodo carrier code “KDO”?

Edited: On the SIM question, in the 5G threads I've seen here it came down to the device or the coverage rather than the SIM card. I recommend you use 3rd party app like LTE discovery to check availability of 5G signal in the are.  If they show up but the phone still sits on LTE/LTE+ in automatic mode, it means it judged LTE the stronger signal at that spot.

Yes it was purchased from (tab) and shipped by Koodo when I switched over.

if this app is truly reliable, then all its confirming is that Koodo’s 5G coverage is non existent in my city or anywhere nearby, as there’s not a single 5G tower belonging to Koodo or Telus. (despite Koodo’s network map showing complete  5G coverage.

You could use this tool to find nearby tower https://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/cancellsites.html? One thing to note: if the phone’s 5G firmware wasn’t provisioned, your phone might not be able to detect 5G signal. Have you tried to reset network settings and to update firmware of it?

Getting a different result here, only one Telus 4G tower located on the outskirts of the city, and the next closest Telus tower is 40km away. I’d wager this is also inaccurate.

Have you checked Bell towers in the area? Telus and Bell share towers.

Ah, I wasn’t aware of that.
Yes there’s definitely lots of Bell towers nearby; three Bell towers within 4km of me have 5G.

According to this page, you may need to download the latest software updates on your phone. Have you tried that yet?

I’m having the same issue. My plan was initially LTE only but was upgraded to 5G but I cannot connect to 5G anywhere in the country. I’ve tried all the fixes I could do from my end

Even if you have a 4G/LTE plan or even a 3G plan, as long as you have a compatible phone and sim, you should already be able to connect to the 5G network.

This recent upgrade is not about being able to connect and use the 5G network, but Koodo removing all the speed throttling.

What phone are you using and where did you purchase it from?

Is it possible that you live in an area where 5G is not installed yet?  For example, Iive in an area with no 5G network,

Also, there are some areas in Canada (like  parts of southern Manitoba) where Bell and Telus do have their own towers and do not share.  So that Telus tower on the edge of town could be your signal source.
