Europe Easy Roam Travel Pass - MMS question

Hi,

Can a Koodo rep/support person confirm for me if MMS is covered on the Europe Easy Roam Travel Passes? My plan includes unlimited talk and text (both SMS and MMS) in Canada and I’m planning to add a 14 day Europe Easy Roam Travel Pass but the documentation is unclear.

I don’t know if “ Note: Picture and video messages (including iMessage) use data, so they count as roaming” means

  • “MMS messages will come out of your data allowance” or
  • “MMS messages are charged per-message at expensive roaming rates” or
  • “if you receive an MMS you’ll be instantly switched to roaming” (which is OK, I plan to use the roaming, hence why I’m adding the travel pass).

Can you please clarify:

  1. Will I be charged if I get an incoming MMS message from Canada while in Europe?
  2. Am I charged to send an MMS message to Canada from Europe?
  3. If the answers to those are “sometimes” can you please provide the details e.g. only if you are over your plan’s included monthly data or some other stipulation?
  4. Does unlimited calling and texting in the country I’m visiting include MMS or only SMS?

It also doesn’t state anywhere if you keep your Canadian phone number? It will be important I do for emergency contacts / 2 factor authentication / etc.

Yes with the Travel pass, MMS will be covered when receiving, and when sending to the country you are in and back home to Canada.

iMessage is completely different and is treated like email.  It is pure data.

If you are using Pay per use roaming, MMS is charged out of your data and your messages sent (when sending).  For incoming, it is charged data only.

For the travel pass it would be covered under your data and messaging.

 

Can you please clarify:

  1. If you do not have a travel pass, then yes receiving a MMS is considered data use and will trigger roaming charges.  But with a travel pass it will just use your included data and texting from your plan
  2. If you do not have a travel pass, then yes sending an MMS to Canada from Europe will trigger messaging and data roaming charges.  But if you have a travel pass it will just use your included data and texting from your plan.
  3. It is not sometimes
  4. With a travel pass it is technically included to SMS and MMS the country you are in since it will use SMS and data to send the MMS

If you are using the Easy Roam Travel Pass and you are within your data limit, you will not be charged for incoming messages from anywhere in the world and outgoing messages to Canadian numbers and those in your destination country.

Sending messages to anywhere else in the world would be subject to the pay-per-use rate, so you need to make sure to use other means of communication, such as Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp, in this scenario to avoid the additional fees. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/payperuse

This excludes MMS.

Incoming MMS will be charged since it uses data and data can be turned off.
