Question

Euro Travel Pass 30 day Package.

I’m off to Europe for a vacation. I will be on European soil for 34 days (Oct 11 - Nov 13).

The 30 day plan is just a few days shy of what I require but that’s okay. I am prepared to land on Oct 11 and go ‘Phone-Free’ on October 11, 12, 13 and 14 - then turn on the data feature on the phone on October 15.

I see there is a 45 day window for the plan so if I add it to my Koodo bill today, I will be back in Canada before 45 days have elapsed and all should be good.

Do I understand this correctly?

Also, I thought I saw on the Koodo site that, within the 45 day period, you only get charged for days you use the data/roaming function. On the other hand, I've also seen the term 30-consecutive days of use.

Question 2 - Could I activate the phone when I land on October 11. Then turn off the data/roaming function for 4 days then turn it back on for 20 days?

Thanks for any help

Bill C.

The 30 days are consecutive once the pass starts, so the 45 days isn't a window you can spread usage across. The 45 days is just how long the pass sits on your account waiting to be started. The 30 consecutive days begin the first time you use the phone in Europe.

So your plan works. First use Oct 15 means the pass runs to Nov 13, lines up with your return.

For question 2, no. Turning data off for 4 days mid-pass doesn't pause the count, so activating Oct 11 would end the pass around Nov 9 and the last days would be pay-per-use http://koodomobile.com/payperuse.

To keep it from starting early, keep both cellular data and data roaming off, and don't make or answer calls or send texts. Incoming texts don't trigger it. You're only billed once you start using it, so adding EU30PASS now is fine.

A follow up question Dinh

I will turn off both cellular data and data roaming and turn on Airplane Mode once I’m on the plane in Toronto. Upon landing in Rome, I’ll keep it that way until the 15th when all should be good.

And while the phone is in this ‘black-out’ phase, I can continue to use wi-fi and will incur no charges. Is that correct?

Thx

That is correct. WiFi on after turning on airplane mode will keep everything else off. You can also take out your Sim card or turn off your esim. That would also work.

To add to the question: Airplane Mode on its own is enough, but I'd still go into Settings and turn data roaming off as well, just so nothing sneaks through if Airplane Mode gets toggled off by accident.

Just be very careful.  If you use any data, any talk, and send any sms, you will trigger roaming and your travel pass will start.

If your phone can do esim, I would recommend a travel esim. I suggest you check out https://esimdb.com/

as they consolidate various travel esim options

You state European soil, are you travelling through different European countries? If so, just remember the Euro Pass is only valid for one country, if you go to a different one, you have to purchase another pass.

Also, if you are close to the border of a different country, turn off "Automatic" for the Network Selection and manually choose the local network to prevent the phone from using a network outside the country you are in, otherwise you get charged at the regular rate.

Enjoy your trip!

OKAY!!!! Now THIS is an interesting point.

I will be in Italy (3.5 weeks), then thru Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary and Netherlands.

Are you saying that the European will only cover one country??????

Really????
