Canada-US-Mexico roaming plan

I have the Canada-US-Mexico roaming with data, talk and texts so I assumed I can use my plan in these three countries without incurring any costs. I’m from Canada and going to the US so assuming I don’t even need to turn on airplane more (but would be great to confirm this too). However, this morning I received a text that said “

Koodo Reminder: Travelling outside of Canada? Keep your phone on since you're already set for Easy Roam! Use your Canadian plan's data, talk and text for $16/day in the U.S. and $18/day in over 200 international destinations, valid until 11:59pm in the destination where you are travelling. You're only charged on days when you use your phone in an eligible destination.

If you don't want to incur roaming charges, set your phone on Airplane Mode to prevent all cellular network usage.”

So now I’m concerned I’m going to incur charges if I don’t turn on airplane mode and turn off my plan. Can someone please confirm if i will incur any extra costs if I don’t turn off my plan while in the US? Thanks!

Hi there,

You will not be charged as long as you use your Canada/US/Mexico plan in those countries. What you received is an automated message outlining the usual roaming charges. This, however, does not apply to you in this case as when your bill is eventually calculated the charges are removed due to your plan.

Regarding airplane mode, when on a plane you should definitely use this of course but when in the USA or Mexico you don’t need it on. You can roam in those countries for free. If you do incur charges while travelling to those countries, feel free to respond here and a rep can look into it. 🙂

Hi. So it's been 3 days since your question. Did you just turn on data roaming on your phone and it worked?  I'm in the same situation & in the US right now. Thanks for your time!

It’s working, fingers crossed I don’t get hit with a charge when I’m back but I think it should be okay!

Thanks so much!  😊
