5G not working on Samsung A55

I have a Samsung A55 5G model and I went on to change from 4G to 5G plan 2 days ago. But Since its showing LTE,  I called customer service and tried all the options. Since non of them were working, changed my sim to an e-sim but it didn't work either.

They also checked the area for 5G and confirmed that 5G is very strong where I live.

Today I thought of giving another try and called customer service and I received a strange answer from them. They said Koodo still provide 4G and haven't started providing 5G even though it's advertised and sold. I really don't believe that.

I think other users can see 5G instead of LTE at the top of the screen along with the increased speed as well.

Can anyone help me to solve this issue

I have 5G with Koodo so it’s deifnitely not true that Koodo doesn’t have it at all. Maybe they mean it’s not dpeloyed where you live. Are you able to swap sim cards with someone else around you that has 5G to see if it’ll work then? and if your sim will work in that other phone?

I assume you confirmed in network settings you have 5G as a network option? I guess since you called customer servic eI assume that wa salso covered.

Put your address/postal code into the coverage map here and let us know if you should be in 5G network coverage or not: https://www.koodomobile.com/en/network

You dont need a 5G plan to connect to 5G.  If you gave a 4G plan it just means your speeds are throttled.

Did you get this phone from koodo?

Hi Dennis, thank you for your reply.

I switched from 4G plan to 5G plan because of the speed issues and buffering and moved from sim to E-sim solve this 5G  issue.

No I got the phone from a 3rd Party seller, brand new.

If the phone was from another 3rd party, there is a chance that the firmware wasn't provisioned with 5G. If you can, I recommend you try to reset the phone to its factory settings with a Koodo SIM in it (do not delete eSIM during the process).

As well, if you know someone who using Telus/Koodo in your area, ask them if they can have 5G logo in their device.

The a55 was never sold in North America, but Samsung brought the a56 back to NA in 2025.   The a55 you have would be an international and/or other region specific device.  It’s possible this model does not have full band support for 5G here in Canada/US.  Either way, don’t expect much in terms of support from Canadian carriers.  These days it’s best to stick with Canada/North American models and variants.

Hi Chris, Thank you for your message.

I believe you are correct. Because I tried using a 5g sim from another provider and it was the same story.

Thank you again

If the problem stayed with the phone, and you mentioning it was from a third party seller, and not a NA model, then I think it’s highly unlikely it has the required bands in Canada for 5G. Out of curiosity, do you still have the box? Otherwise you can go to settings “about phone” to get the exact model number and then see that model’s comparible 5G bands.
