Unable to connect to a network in Australia

Hi Koodo Support,

My Koodo prepaid account is active.
I'm now in Melbourne, Australia using an unlocked iPhone 14 Pro Max.
My phone detects Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone AU, but every network registration attempt fails and the phone returns to SOS.
I've already enabled Data Roaming, updated carrier settings, and manually selected networks.
Please help I need to receive OPT from my bank.

Thank you
Kind Regards

Edit: Sorry I realised that you said you had a Koodo prepaid account, not postpaid. I misread your post.

Koodo prepaid does not work in any other country besides Canada and the USA. Only Koodo postpaid accounts can roam in other countries. You will have to find an alternative for your mobile service while you’re in Australia. For example, you can use a travel eSIM from AirAlo or Saily or by picking up a local prepaid sim card.

Hi Oliver,

Thank you for your response.

It says
Canada-Wide Talk Add-Ons :  Canada-Wide Talk Add-Ons expire 30 days post purchase.
and
Long Distance Add-ons : Long Distance add-ons expire 30 days post purchase

Nothing about “Easy Roam International” and the “International Voice “

I have a prepaid plan maybe thats the reason?
Can I convert to postpaid online?

Thanks

hi @Amiesh , Yes, the reason is because you have a prepaid account that you cannot receive service. Sorry I had revised my post but you had responded before I finished. Please review my message above.

Unfortunately, you cannot port your number over to postpaid from prepaid while outside of Canda or the USA. This is because you need to accept a port authorization message from Koodo for fraud protection reasons in order to move the number over - this can’t be done as your device will not have service to receive the message to port the number.

This is also the case if you try to port the number temporarily to a VoIP service as again, you won’t receive the authorization message to move the number. I would recommend the travel eSIM services as mentioned above or by picking up a local prepaid sim.

I need to receive my banks OTP’s on the number.
If I can just login into my bank I can change the number there but before that I need an OTP to login.

I suggest reaching out to support through your bank to see if they can change the number they send the OTP to via a different method. You will not be able to receive the OTP SMS text message on your prepaid service while you’re out of Canada / the USA.

If you are planning to stay abroad for an extended period of time, you may want to consider switching to a postpaid plan with the Fast Switch Self Serve Option and set up an eSIM on your phone with your Self-Serve account. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/moving-prepaid-postpaid-monthly-service

The good thing is that you will be able to keep your phone number, SIM card, and payment method. Your prepaid balance can be carried forward towards your postpaid bills as well.
