My wife received a text message today, gontaining a link to deposit a payment from koodo to her bank account...we suspect serious spam.

Yes, 100%. I get them all the time too.
As an added measure, forward the spam message to 7726 (SPAM) so that Koodo/TELUS can start an investigation.
