Cannot activate new SIM card

I upgraded my Offspring’s phone from a flip for the holidays. We received a new sim card however we cannot get it to activate for service. 
-- Ask a rep feature isn’t loading for me on my laptop?

Is the sim card in the old phone the same size or is it one of the tri-sims that can be made smaller by removing the outer plastic layer? If so you can just put that one into the new phone.

I never thought to try the old one! 

I attempted the route in the link you provided before coming to the forums as that gave me no solution. :(
