Before I buy an eSim, trying to understand if my phone is carrier locked

The eSim provider I’m considering (Ubigi) suggested to verify if my SIM was carrier locked and Chat GPT suggested the following steps to verify: with a Pixel 7:

  • Open Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs.

  • Tap your SIM (e.g. “Koodo”).

  • Look for any option or message about “Network unlocked” or “Carrier locked.”

    • If it says Unlocked, you’re good to go.

    • If there’s no mention, continue below.

However, when I click on the Koodo SIM, I don’t see any “network unlocked” or “carrier locked”

I can confirm that with the steps Ubigi gave me that my phone supports eSims.

Thanks!

Hi there,

If you have the Canadian model of the google pixel 7 then yes, it is already unlocked. The CRTC passed a rule a while ago that any new device sold in Canada past 2017 comes unlocked out of the box.
