account transfer

Hi,

I currently have a Koodo postpaid line that is under contract until December 2026. I would like to transfer the ownership of this account to my brother while keeping the existing contract, phone number, and plan unchanged.

Could you please confirm if this is possible? If so, what is the process, and are there any fees associated with transferring the account ownership?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hey Zee16, yes, this is possible — it's called a Transfer of Ownership (TOWN). The number, plan, and remaining contract terms all stay the same - only the account ownership and billing responsibility transfer to your brother ($75)
Process: This can't be done in Self Serve — it requires a Koodo rep because of identity verification. You'll need to contact Koodo directly (via Koodo Assist chat, or visit a Koodo store). Ideally, your brother should be on the call with you so the rep can verify both parties at once. If that's not possible, be ready to provide your brother's phone number so the rep can reach out to him. Once you initiate the transfer, your brother has 10 days to call in and complete it — if he doesn't, you remain responsible for the line.

So there is a fee to transfer? $75

Didn't CRTC ban activation fee?

Well, this is ownership transfer fee unfortunately - not activation fee.
If you would like to avoid it, you can just ask your brother to activate a new line and cancel yours.

Telus, Bell, and Rogers are currently not complying with the no activation fee regulation and the CRTC is looking at how to address this.

The TOWN is a unique subset of an activation fee.  This may take some time before it is fully resolved.
