Question

5G

Koodo sent a text saying they are automatically changing my plan to a 5G plan soon and that they will ship me something.

I don’t want 5G and I think I am the one that decides what I want with my cell plan.

A company should not be automatically changing things without permission from the customer.

There is no 5G antenna in my whole region so is  this going to cause me to lose service if I am not “up” graded to 5G?

If we cannot or won’t upgrade will we have to find a new plan elsewhere or will Koodo still provide service?

In the recent past / currently, Koodo allows all devices to access any Koodo/Telus network (3G, 4G LTE, and 5G).  The difference is that Koodo would sell certain plans that are 3G speeds, 4G speeds, or 5G speeds.  This means that even though you are connected to a 5G network, Koodo would throttle your speed lower based on your plan speed.  What koodo is doing is just removing that speed cap.

It has no negative impact on anyone.

What I am surprised about is that Koodo is saying they will ship you something?

What are they shipping you?  Can you post a screenshot of this text (make sure to black out any personal info)?

There is no issue with being upgraded to a 5G plan. You can still use the Koodo network, but it will be at lower speeds similar to what you are currently using. However, it is understandable that you do not want it if you are not located in an urban area.

To resolve this issue, you can simply switch to a LTE plan on Koodo Prepaid. That should give you some peace of mind and may even lower your bill. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/prepaid-plans

Are you sure it is from Koodo and not a scammer? What are they shipping to you? That sounds suspicious.
