Outbound Calling Name Display Needs Updating

Hi, I would like to suggest that Koodo Mobile updates it’s policy on allowing Koodo subscribers on the same account/under one account to have the ability to change their Outbound Calling Name Display (OCND). This would personalize the service to tailor that user.

Some examples of where it can come handy.

Parent John Doe gets a plan and line for their kid Joey Doe. Right now, if the Outbound Calling Name Display (OCND) is enabled on the kid’s line, the OCND will display JOHN DOE, and not the kid’s name. This could cause confusion when the kid’s line is being used to make a call, and it still display’s the parent’s name.

Another similar example can be applied to a family with multiple members.

Parent John Doe gets a plan/line for their kid Joey Doe and spouse Jane Doe. All three lines will display JOHN DOE as the OCND. It will not display JOEY DOE nor JANE DOE as the OCND. This is an example of a three member family. How about a family that is much larger? They will all have the same OCND according to the current Koodo policy.

Many kids don’t have the ability to get their own line either because they are too young, or do not have credit to subscribe for their line. So this is another factor in consideration.

From my experience, both Rogers & Fido let their customers customize their OCND, as this feature is lacking with both Telus & Koodo.

I hope Koodo Mobile will update this feature/policy in the near future.

Great news! Koodo launched Outbound Calling Name Display (OCND), which enables customers that add the feature to have their account name displayed with their number when they place an outgoing call.

What’s changing?

Currently, customers are able to see the phone number and name of people calling them, but they are only able to have their number displayed when they place an outgoing call.

Customers who wish to display their account name when they call are now able to add the optional Outbound Calling Name Display feature.

For more information see our Outbound Calling Name Display help page.

It’s a nice feature to have, and it might help with the first call. However, most people usually save the number under a preferred name in their phone contact anyway

Its still not available as per Koodo phone customer service rep. I just activated a new account which has line for my child. I called customer service and they said it is not available. I have currently Fido, Telus, Public Mobile (Telus/Koodo sister company), all allow option to add the OCND on the portal. With Koodo, no such thing. I followed the article linked and have added it to my account, will check after 15 mins if it is available. Call center reps need training on their own product.

Ok, that feature is useless and unclear. I added it, but it says in that article that it will not let you edit it. So it is almost as if the feature is doing what the default would have been, to send your phone number and name on account already.

“Can I choose the name that will be shown?

Sorry, your display name can’t be customized. The name that will be displayed will be the name that you used to create your Koodo account.”

Why do we always have such inconsistent services across brands of same company. A cheaper brand lets you do it, but not Koodo

By default, it only shows your number and unknown caller when you call someone. By adding the call display feature through Koodo, it adds in the name that is on your Koodo account.

I can agree with everything else though. Would be nice to edit it, change per line, etc. But that is the functionality of Koodo’s add-on.

Ok good to know, but all other providers, I never had to do such a thing. Phone number and name go through automatically.

Maybe they should then waive id check requirement so that teenagers can open their own accounts.

Unfortunately postpaid accounts require a credit check to be done and by law, you’d have the be the age of majority in your province to do so, (18 or 19 depending on the province).
Past that they’d have to look to prepaid equivalents or a carrier like Telus that offers the individual name editing.
Hopefully Koodo can bring it soon!
