eSim card needs to be an option on new accounts

I just switched to Koodo on one of the new promotion plans. I was surprised how seamless it was to port my number from one the Big 3, and it was all done (mostly) online and pretty convenient. However one thing I noticed was lack of eSim options, as well as info around eSim. My phone supports eSim and I used it at my last carrier. When I was creating my account and port# request, I never had an option to try and request an eSim instead of a regular Sim. So I had to spend the $5 on a sim card, when I’d prefer to use eSim. Not only that, I learned later that you can only get eSim’s from instore - which costs $10. And lastly, it took 3 days for my sim card to arrive. That’s not bad shipping time, but still.

For a brand that is pushing mostly online activations, wouldn’t it make a lot of sense to have eSim’s available online and as part of new account creations? I wouldn’t even care about the $5 sim card charge if it meant I could pick an eSim option, and have a QR code emailed to me with a few hours and then begin account activation or number transfer. That would be so great! Not to mention it would save on printing on plastic and mail costs too.

Hopefully this is a feature that will come to Koodo in the future.

Yep, but of course leave it to Koodo to put esims as "future consideration"...

I mean, just look at how far behind they are with their own  sister company, a company that only deals with prepaid services. It's a joke.

This is one old thread you’ve dug up and necro’d. It is indeed an issue that they’ve been far behind in esim support. But it’s getting there. The most annoying part now being that you still have to get  a physical esim code to scan initially, even though transfers are working now.

As of now, you CAN have eSIM at the time of activation with both Postpaid and Prepaid Service

No denying that I did dig up a very old thread. But I mean, come on. What’s it gotta take to implement something as basic as e-sim from the website?

I didn’t realize that transfers from psim to esim were now working, that’s good news on them! But I totally agree, the fact that you need to head to the closest Koodo store (if you have one, I guess) is a pain nonetheless. Unless you could head to a Telus store? For some reason though, I doubt that one...

Just to confirm, have you tried to activate your line online recently? the eSIM option has been there for a few months.

A move in the right direction, for sure. But still a bit behind everyone else imo. It is what it is.

Looks like I’m outdated on activation now myself. Are there other features not available with Koodo that are with its level peers in Canada? I know that other nation’s carriers have options for esim changes in their apps/online that is generally lacking here.

Hi,

At the moment, it is possible to activated on an esim as a new customer:

For eSim replacement on an existing line, an esim voucher can be purchased only store, more info here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/esim-and-esim-vouchers

The status of this idea will be reviewed soon.

Thank you!
