Hey, if you’ve recently switched from iPhone to Android, Windows or BlackBerry, you might not be receiving texts from iPhone users. To fix this, you might need to deregister iMessage on your old phone in order to receive text messages from iPhone users on your new phone.

You still have your iPhone?

  • Transfer your SIM card to your iPhone.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Messages.
  • Turn iMessage off. Go back to Settings.
  • Tap FaceTime.
  • Turn FaceTime off. Exit Settings.

You no longer have your iPhone?

Luckily Apple was kind enough to create a super helpful user guide that can help:   Learn how to disable iMessage on the Apple website.

I’m having this issue too, please help!

I had turned on iMessage, trying to temporarily join family sharing, a few months ago. I then turned it off, but apparently it stayed on on my iPad after turning it off on my iphone. That’s when the issue started and I’m just figuring it out after speaking with friends. I missed many important Messages without knowing it. Fyi- I use all Apple / iOS devices. Here is what’s happening:

1- I found a bunch of unread texts when I looked at my “messages app” on my iPad last night. I don’t use that app on anything but my phone so I had no idea they were going there.

2- I have since turned off and logged out of iMessage/messages on my iPad and computer.

3- I have tested texting with friends with my iMessage on and off. The problem seems to be with other iMessage users but I can’t confirm that it’s only them. The friends I have tested with use iPhone and I  will only receive their message if I have iMessage turned on and wifi turned on AT THE TIME THEY TEXT. I do not even always get the message once I turn on wifi again. Their messages do not come thru as sms even though they have checked their settings and have the option “send as text message” selected. I do not get their messages at all when my iMessage is turned off. I would just like to disable it completely and use text like a normal phone.

4- I have tried turning my devices all off and on, resetting the network on my phone and iPad, making sure my phone number and email are selected under send and receive, and that my phone is selected for sending new messages from in the messages app settings. I have disabled iMessage through the deactivation link (and it says it’s already been deactivated when I try again after turning iMessage on and off)

Please advise, this is extremely frustrating.

I cannot receive text messages from anyone with an iPhone. This happened suddenly and without any changes to anything. I have tried the suggested fixes but nothing seems to be working. What can I do?
