Question

Why was my easy roam triggered without consent.

I recently travelled from Canada. I just received my invoice from Koodo and it was massive. Upon checking I found out easy roam was activated on my account for some reason even though I never used my service for anything when I was visiting UAE and India. Easy roam was activated 4 -5 times on my account while I was in India. Is there any chance I can get this sorted? My usual bill is $64 but this time its $223. Please help

Easy Roam triggers automatically whenever you use data, make or receive a call, or send a text while connected to a foreign tower in places like the UAE or India. You do not need to give consent for this to happen. Even a brief connection like a minute of data or a pocket dialed call can activate the daily charge of 15 dollars.

You’ll want to first log into Self Serve and go to Usage then Roaming to see exactly what triggered the fee. You can just screenshot your bill details with your personal info blurred and post them here if you want someone to look at them.

To prevent this later, turn off Data Roaming in your settings and use Airplane Mode at borders. Also, set your network selection to manual and pick Koodo only. When were the charges and what is your plan type?

Hi there,

Easy Roam is triggered whenever you use any of your plan features while travelling. This includes sending a text, receiving one that uses data, using data, making or receving a phone call, and most commonly when checking your voicemail. This will also trigger if you use Apple’s Live Voicemail feature.

When you check the PDF bill for the cause of the charges, what does it say the charges were for? You can also check in self serve by following the article below. When you do, does the usage make sense?

Thank you for your inputs.

I have attached the screenshot of the breakdown on when I was charged for easy roam. Not sure how it was activated, as I had separate SIM cards for each country I visited.

Your Koodo SIM was off the entire time?

The ER/VC mark was there to denote an event triggering Easy Roam. You would have to look for usage in other areas.

From this screenshot, you made or received calls on Mar 21 (2 minutes), on Mar 20, and on Mar 19 (1 minute). Those calls triggered the Easy Roam fee on your account. I would check your phone log to see which SIM is used to make those call. Checking voicemail can also trigger roaming.

When you follow the steps with the article I shared, it will show you the steps to view the usage more specifically. This will tell you what had triggered the charge.

When you do, does it show that it was caused by calling, texting, or data usage? As I said before, a lot of people are commonly charged due to checking of the voicemail. Did you do this in-between switching sims etc?
