third party charges

Be aware as there is such a thing as third party billing. I was charged for something I never used and have heard about before. Koodo’s says they have now blokced third party charges from my bill. They should have done that before. I can not believe Koodo will not do anything about the charges, that they allowed to my account without my permission.

This is a terrible service as cell phone rates are already high in Canada. And they feel they need to squeeze more money out of us.

 I have never used it, but third party billing is a pretty big thing. That being said I think Busuu is a scam company.
 

Over 1.5 billion mobile subscribers globally use Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) to make third-party purchases, such as digital content, in-app subscriptions, and tickets. This translates to about one in every five active mobile subscribers, relying on the method to charge purchases directly to their monthly phone bill.

I would suggest you to stop the billing first by texting STOP to 5490. In the meantime, let me flag a rep for you to block any future third-party purchases.

We recommend following the steps shared above to cancel the current subscription and contact Busuu for further billing disputes.


Another complaint about Busuu again. Please stop this company from direct biling us because we did not sign up for this service.

I did contact Busuu and this is their reply:

Thank you for your email. 

This message is to confirm that your subscription to the service Busuu has been stopped as of 13/03/2026.

Your phone number was initially entered onto our service advertisement on 12/03/2026 with the user confirming that they meet the legal age requirement in Canada and accept responsibility for the payments.

When a valid mobile number is manually entered, our server sends an invitation message to the number. This message contains a unique 4-digit activation PIN code.

Once the holder of the device enters the PIN code back onto the service confirmation page, the activation is confirmed, and the service is initiated.

Please note no costs are incurred until a valid confirmation PIN is received in response to the invitation message. Our confirmation message is then sent free of charge welcoming the user to the service.

We hope the above information has helped you understand how the mobile phone number in question subscribed to our service and that the end user is required to be in possession of a mobile device with the SIM card associated with the number in question before it can be completed.

Whilst we understand and have empathy for your situation, we cannot justify a refund of any kind.

No I did not get the text!. It did not happen there was no pin. I knew nothing about this company until I investigated why my bill was so high.
