Question

Stream+ price increase despite price locked in?

The Koodo website states that “Stream+ rates are changing, starting on April 9th, 2025.”, by either $3 for basic or $5 for premium. However, when I first signed up for this promotion in March 2024, I received an email stating “Stream+ Basic $15.00/month first 999 months, then $20.00/month afterwards.”.  How is this allowed? The email says nothing about prices possibly increasing or for a limited time, etc. It explicitly states 999 months.

Did this help you find an answer to your question?

If possible, can you share a snapshot of the email here? Hide all personal information before posting please.

Regarding the price, by regulation, there is no mandate for a company to keep same price forever.

Thanks Dinh for the reply. I will attach a pic of the email I recieved.

I understand that companies need to raise prices and that they can't/don't keep the same prices forever. However, laying out a promotion with a set time period but not abiding by it seems pretty... crappy of Koodo

Did you enter any promotion code? It appears that code might trigger that email content. Technically, that code can only reduce the price of stream+ by certain amount - not keeping the base amount the same.

Anyway, I will flag a rep to look into it.

I do not remember entering a code. I believe there was a  deal for existing Koodo customers who were not already subscribed to Stream+. Thank you!

Hi there,

So how the pricing usually worked is that you recieve a $5 a month credit off of the price of Stream+, in this case basic, which is an ongoing credit as you have mobile services with koodo.

Your credit won't expire for this as long as you have your phone with koodo, 999 months is just a place holder, however the base pricing for stream+ changes to reflect what the subscriptions do to give a min 15% savings. Where netflix recently upped their prices, I presume this is why stream+ has to increase to accommodate for that.

Hopefully the rep dinh flagged can look more into it but that's the gist on how it works 🙂

Hi @bcook, we checked your account and you are getting a reduced price for the Stream+ as you also have mobility services. This discount is not set to expire while both services are active so the 999 month deadline is just a way to represent the ongoing nature of the discount.

Like Oliver mentioned above, there have been increases to the individual streaming services included in the Stream+ bundle which reflect in the overall price for the service.

Hi Georgia, in the original email I attached,  there is no mention that the 999 month deal is for the discount. It does not say $5 off for 999 months, it says $15 for 999 months

I think that it is poorly worded in this situation where one of the bundled services raises their prices independent of Koodo. It’s saying that the $15 is discounted from the regular $20. It may well need some visible descriptor that price is subject to change if any streaming service increases prices.

Hello @Georgia Koodo / Koodo team, are there any updates regarding this?

Hi there @bcook

We apologize for the error in the discount details of your Stream+ purchase confirmation email. The pricing listed was accurate at that time, but the wording of the pricing and offer term were incorrect and confusing.

You purchased Stream+ from Koodo as part of the Happy Stack bundle, which provides an ongoing $5/month discount off the regular Stream+ price. At the time of purchase, Stream+ Basic was $20/month, so you have been paying $15/month with your Happy Stack discount.

Due to price increases from our partners, the regular price of Stream+ Basic will increase to $23/month in April 2025. However, your Happy Stack discount will remain the same at $5/month, resulting in a new monthly payment of $18/month.

Please note that when you purchased the Stream+ bundle, the offer legal on the purchase page stated that the offer and regular pricing are subject to change without notice. We will ensure that this information is included in future confirmation emails.

Thank you for your understanding.
