removing easy roam charges

I live in Victoria and went to visit California for a few days in April. I made sure not to use my data and to not make any calls to avoid the Easy Roam charge on my account. However, I now have 3 charges ($16 each, total of $48) on my account for that period. I was very careful to not make any calls, and to only use my U.S. phone number/data plan, which is different from my Koodo account. I would like help to please remove these charges from my account, as I did not make any calls with my Koodo phone number while traveling.

Hi @silvannn.v

We have looked into it and according to the usage details, there were outgoing texts that triggered the charges. We recommend checking the usage section in self serve for more details.

We recommend following the steps provided above to prevent unwanted roaming charges.

Also, if you plan to travel to the US regularly, feel free to check in self serve if there is any Canada-US plan option available for you.

Alternatively, you can check the travel pass options when traveling abroad for a short period of time ttps://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/europe-easy-roam-travel-passes

If you have further questions, please let us know and we will do our best to help!

Hi

Accidental usage happens more often than you might think. Could you double-check your Self-Serve account to see how much data the foreign carriers reported? If it was just a tiny amount, Koodo might be able to waive the charges.

More information can be found here. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/understanding-how-youll-be-charged-while-travelling?

Next time you’re travelling and want to avoid roaming charges, just switch Data and Data Roaming off in your phone’s settings and don’t make or pick up calls or send texts. You can safely receive text messages without being charged for roaming, as long as mobile data and data roaming stay off so that any photos or videos in those texts don’t use data.

You can also avoid roaming charges by:

  • Putting your phone in Airplane mode
  • Taking out your SIM card
  • Removing any free international roaming add-ons linked to your line
