question re data usage notification when roaming

I am in the EU and have a 14 day travel pass for roaming.

I got a notification that I had used 200 GB of data. This is the first notification I have received about data usage.

In my settings I have all the different kinds of notifications enabled so should be notified about everything possible.

Issues:

  • My data plan allows only 100 GB per cycle and my Usage currently shows less than 2 GB used. I suppose roaming usage is not reflected here.
  • How did my usage get to 200 GB without me receiving previous notifications?
  • I went to look for the text message for the notification and I can't find it. I even searched the messages Trash. Where did it come from? Is there a way I can see these notifications in the koodo mobile app?

So in summary I'm confused about what is happening and worried about my bill.

Thanks.

That is strange. To confirm, when you check your usage for the previous month, was it closer to the threshold? Since travelling, have you begun a new billing cycle or changed your plan? As you may have either been close at the end of your cycle or if you changed your plan, you have a prorated amount of data until the next cycle.

Besides that, do you know if the notification was indeed from Koodo or from something else? As koodo will send you an SMS text message alerting you that you’re close to your max usage at 50%,90%, and 100% usage at which point you’re cut off. This is odd if you don’t have any messages at all. If your usage in your Koodo self-serve shows that you’re not at your limit or close to it, then that is how you’re billed and you can continue to use your data.

Koodo self serve does not have a notification inbox or history page for previous alerts etc, so you won’t be able to find it there. However, you can track your data usage through self-serve and what is reflected there is what Koodo sees and in turn, is how you’re billed for your services.

@Oliver C thanks, I will continue to watch this situation. I don't know who sent me the notification because I can't find the message anywhere that I looked.

No problem, yeah bit of an odd one but if it comes up again and you can get a screenshot or something, let us know and we can assist you here again.

Hopefully it was just a random notification that cleared itself after it realised you were not close to the cap. Just keep an eye on self-serve for now, but beyond that, I hope you enjoy your trip! It is a nice time of year to be over there.
