NSF troubles - Venting

I paid my bill approx $100, The next day a preauthorized payment was deducted from my acct. Had mistakenly paid but was on a preauthorized  plan. Apparently the preauthorized payment went through ok. Leaving my acct with a $6 credit. Unfortunately the payment I made became NSF.  And now I have an $80 charge for an irrelevant transaction. The bill was paid, balance +6. So yes an NSF was triggered but for an overpayment. An unnecessary transaction. Is that cause for an $80 charge? Seriously. Anyway I used the review a charge option and was credited  $50, still where is the not sufficient funds when the account has a positive balance. Ya I know, shut up and take the $50.

The NSF fee is triggered by the returned payment itself, not by what the balance was at the time. Your bank sent the manual payment back, and that bounce is what gets charged, so the pre-authorized one going through and leaving you a $6 credit doesn't factor into it. It's a flat $80 regardless of the amount, which is why it ends up looking so out of proportion here.

you already used Ask us to review a charge and got $50 of it back, and that tool only reviews one charge at a time so it won't go any further on its own. Let me flag a rep to take a second look at the remaining $30. No guarantee it gets waived, but it will get looked at properly.

Hi @NOT SO HAPPY

We have looked into it and we can see that the payment that was made manually is the one that triggered the NSF fee as it has been backed out by the bank.

According to the details we see, the payment made manually was deposited the same day as the automatic payment, but it was posted one day later, which might be the reason why it was backed out.

We have also sent you a PM to confirm some more details, please check  your community inbox when you get the chance.
