Koodo Account We Never Opened Is Hurting My Husband's Cred

Monica Balu

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice regarding a very concerning issue.

A Koodo account has suddenly appeared on my husband's credit report, causing his credit score to drop by nearly 200 points. The problem is that we have never opened or signed up for a Koodo account.

For reference:

  • I have always been a Fido customer.
  • My husband was with Rogers and later switched to Telus.
  • Neither of us has ever had a Koodo account or authorized anyone to open one on our behalf.

We're very concerned that this could be a fraudulent account or identity theft.

Has anyone experienced something similar? What is the fastest way to get this investigated and removed? We've only just discovered it and would appreciate any guidance on the best next steps.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Has anyone from Telus or koodo contacted you about signing up?

If you believe it is fraudulent, I highly suggest you report it to your credit Agency.

You can also request a callback via koodo assist

No, we were not contacted by anyone.
Unable to request a call back from koodo assist as i dont have an account with them.

The collection agent met credit is saying that its ours and cancelled the dispute, but there is no proof, nor we have signed anything.

In that case if it has already gone to collections, I would report this to the credit agencies.

Is there anyway to contact koodo on this?

Or I just have to report it to TransUnion?

Will they be able to verify that we never signed for it , and would they reverse the negative credit score.

The statement shows it has been due from Sep 2024, but we were never called for anything like this and the score did not go down until this month, and now it shows 20 late payments :(

It doesn't hurt to try to get hold of koodo.

But you will need to request a callback via koodo assist.

You don't need a koodo account to request a callback

Since the debt has been sent to the collection agency, it is no longer handled by Koodo.

I would suggest you to follow up with the collection agency and ask them for proof of the debt. They are obligated to provide you with further details. You should also file a credit dispute with Equifax and TransUnion.
