How Do I Use an American Credit Card without a Canadian Postal Code?

I’m an American visiting Canada for slightly over a month.  I bought a Koodo SIM via Amazon before my trip.  My Koodo service has been everything I’ve needed.  I’m trying to renew my service for my last few days here, but the website is making it impossible.

The customer service AI insists that the site accepts American credit cards, but in practice, this is simply untrue.  The site does not allow me to complete the registration of my card, because it requires a six-character Canadian postal code.  This is something that, as a resident of the United States, I do not have.  The site will not accept my five-digit American zip code.

I have tried to contact Koodo customer service, and scheduled a callback.  But my service expired overnight, and although I can see them trying to call me, the calls fail instantly when I answer them.

Is there anything I can do, or do I have to accept that Koodo chooses to make it impossible for me to continue with their service?

hi,

I assume you are a prepaid customers? If the card didn't work, you could buy Koodo prepaid vouchers from a Koodo location or retail. After that you could topup your account. More can be found here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/services/prepaid-vouchers?

Hi there,

only Credit, Visa debit, or Mastercard debit cards with a Canadian address can be used to make a payment for prepaid accounts through Self-serve.

Other alternatives you can try is by calling *611 from your Koodo number and see if that will allow you to pay with your US credit card as this may bypass the address verification. It is worth a shot and only takes a few mins. If it doesn’t work, your other alternatives are to visit a koodo or Telus store and purchase a top up voucher. Once you have the voucher, you can call *611 and top up the account. Calling *611 will still go through even if the account is suspended.

More information on topping up your prepaid account and what is and is not allowed can be found here: Topping up your prepaid account | Koodo Mobile

If it is not working on your Self-Serve account, you can purchase a top-up voucher from a third-party website where you are able to use your international credit card. I have listed out a few options for you, in no particular order, to top up your prepaid account.

It is important to note that this method is not endorsed by Koodo, so I would suggest you to use it at your discretion.
